How to Set Up IPTV on Any Device

To set up IPTV, install a player app on your device, then enter the login your IPTV provider sends you: an M3U link, or Xtream Codes details (a server address, a username and a password). The player shows the channels, the login brings them, and your internet connection carries them. Pick your device below for the right player and the exact steps.

Your device matters more than the app you choose. Android TV and Google TV give you every major player straight from the store, a Fire OS stick needs one extra step, Samsung, LG and Apple narrow the choice, and Roku is the hardest of all. Choose the device well and the rest is mostly typing.

What you need before you start

Every setup, on every device, comes down to the same three pieces, and knowing which one is missing saves a lot of guessing once something refuses to work.

A login from your provider. It arrives in one of two forms. An M3U link is a single web address that holds your channel list, while Xtream Codes details are a server address plus a username and password. Smart IPTV App sends both in the same WhatsApp or email message, 5 to 15 minutes after payment. Xtream Codes is usually easier to type with a remote, and it brings the TV guide with it, which our IPTV EPG guide explains; our Xtream Codes explainer compares the two formats in detail.

A player app. The player shows the channels; it never provides them. Every developer named on this page says so on its own site. Which player you can use depends on the device, so each section below lists the ones we checked for that device, with the official place to get them.

A connection that keeps up. Netflix recommends 3 Mbps for HD, 5 Mbps for Full HD and 15 Mbps for 4K on its own service. Treat those as a floor for one IPTV stream. Every other screen in the house takes its share.

Which device is easiest for IPTV?

Android TV and Google TV devices. The players are in the store, they update themselves, and TiviMate, XCIPTV, IPTV Smarters Pro and Smart IPTV all run on them. A Fire OS stick comes a close second, with one extra step through the Downloader app and then the same freedom.

Samsung and LG smart TVs work well when the right player is in their store, but the choice is narrower and depends on how old the TV is. Apple devices sit in between: fewer players, all of them through the App Store. Roku is the most limited.

Buying something mainly for IPTV? Get an Android TV device or a Fire OS stick. Already own the TV? Start with its store, and keep a stick in mind as plan B. Our best IPTV player guide names the right app for each device, and our IPTV box comparison covers every box worth buying.

Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube

Check your model first. According to AFTVnews, the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick HD run Vega OS, which blocks Downloader and every app from outside the store. The 4K Max, the 4K Plus, the 1st-gen HD and the Fire TV Cube still run Fire OS and work with everything below.

All three players install through the free Downloader app. Allow it once under Settings, My Fire TV, Developer Options, Install unknown apps. Our Firestick setup guide shows that part in detail.

TiviMateFree, paid premiumCable-style TV guide, catch-up and recording.
IPTV Smarters ProFreeSeparate Live TV, Movies and Series sections.

  5. Restart IBO Player on the TV. The playlist loads on its own.

Not sure which Smarters download is the real one? Our IPTV Smarters Pro guide maps the official version for every device. Downloader codes for other players are listed in our guide to official IPTV Downloader codes, and our comparison of IPTV players for Firestick goes deeper into each app.

Android TV and Google TV

This covers Android boxes, Google TV streamers and smart TVs that run Android TV or Google TV, including many Sony, TCL, Philips and Hisense models. Two of the players below come straight from Google Play. Nothing to sideload.

Our comparison of IPTV apps for Android TV and Google TV adds Smart IPTV and iMPlayer TV, and explains the new Google rules on apps installed from outside Google Play. For TiviMate itself, our TiviMate guide covers free versus premium and the copies to avoid, and our IPTV for TiviMate page shows the matching plans. If you prefer a free player that reads an M3U link and records, our IPTV Extreme guide shows which of the look-alike apps is the original.

Samsung Smart TV

Samsung TVs run Tizen, Samsung's own system, so Android apps and Downloader do not work on them. Players come from the TV's app store, and you need a Samsung account signed in on the TV to install anything.

Hot Player30-day trial, then yearly or lifetime licensePlaylist added from your phone by MAC address.
Smart IPTVOne-time 5.49 EUR per TVFor Tizen 6.5 and newer (2022 models onward).
IPTV SmartersFreeUpdated Samsung app under review; USB install meanwhile.

The fees above go to the app developers and are not part of an IPTV subscription, so when an app's trial ends, only the app needs a license while your subscription keeps running exactly as before.

Hot Player: step by step
  1. Open the Samsung TV app store, search for Hot Player and install it.
  2. Open it and note the MAC address shown on screen.
  3. On your phone or computer, go to hotplayer.app and open Upload List.
  4. Enter the MAC address and add your playlist with the details we sent.
  5. Restart Hot Player on the TV. The 30-day trial starts on its own; after that, the developer sells a yearly or a lifetime activation.
Smart IPTV: step by step
  1. Check your TV first: Smart IPTV supports Samsung models with Tizen 6.5 or newer, which means 2022 onward.
  2. Install Smart IPTV from the Samsung app store and open it to see the TV's MAC address.
  3. On siptv.app, open the My List page and upload the M3U link we sent, linked to that MAC address.
  4. Restart the app. The developer charges a one-time 5.49 EUR activation per TV.
IPTV Smarters: step by step
  1. The official download page says the updated Samsung app is under review.
  2. In the meantime, it explains how to install IPTV Smarters Pro from a USB drive. Follow the developer's own instructions on that page.
  3. Once installed, add a user with the Xtream Codes login and enter your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password.

On an older Samsung, or when none of these suits you, a Fire OS stick or a Google TV streamer in an HDMI port is the most reliable way around the TV's limits. Our full Samsung Smart TV IPTV guide covers the Samsung account, IBO Player and the USB install step by step.

LG Smart TV

LG TVs run webOS. You install players from LG's own store, called LG Content Store on older models and Apps on newer ones, and you need an LG account to download apps.

IPTV Smarters PlayerFreeListed by the developer for the LG store.
Hot Player30-day trial, then yearly or lifetime licensePlaylist added from your phone by MAC address.
IPTV Smarters Player: step by step
  1. Open the LG store on the TV and search for IPTV Smarters Player, as the developer's download page instructs.
  2. Select it and install it.
  3. Open the app and add a user with the Xtream Codes login.
  4. Enter any name, then your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password, and confirm.
Hot Player: step by step
  1. Search for Hot Player in the LG store and install it.
  2. Open it and note the MAC address.
  3. On hotplayer.app, open Upload List, enter the MAC address and add your playlist.
  4. Restart the app on the TV.

Always install from the TV's own store rather than from files found online. Store apps update themselves. Our full guide to IPTV on LG Smart TVs adds Smart IPTV and explains why player licenses are tied to the TV.

Roku

Roku is the most limited device for IPTV. It only installs apps from its own store, and the developer mode you may read about is, according to Roku's own developer documentation, a tool for enrolled developers to test the apps they are building.

One player we could confirm is Hot Player, whose official site lists the Roku store among its platforms. The steps match the Samsung and LG versions: install it from the Roku store, note the MAC address, add your playlist on hotplayer.app, then restart the app. Its 30-day trial is followed by a yearly or a lifetime license sold by the developer.

Screen mirroringFreeMirror a phone or tablet; quality depends on Wi-Fi.
A second deviceOne-off costA Fire OS stick or Google TV streamer on the same TV.

We recommend the third option. A separate stick works on any TV with an HDMI port and gives you the full choice of players. Our full guide to IPTV on Roku covers all three routes, including the look-alike apps in the Roku store.

Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

On Apple devices everything goes through the App Store. Names can mislead. Several apps look alike, so check the developer name on the listing before you pay for anything.

Smarters Player LiteFree, premium $1.99The developer's app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, from tvOS 12.
UHFCore features freeXtream or M3U, needs tvOS 17 or iOS 16.
Smarters Player Lite: step by step
  1. Open the App Store on the iPhone, iPad or Apple TV and install Smarters Player Lite, the version the IPTV Smarters download page lists for Apple devices.
  2. Open the app and add a playlist.
  3. Paste the M3U link we sent. On an iPhone or iPad, copy it from WhatsApp or email and paste it rather than typing it.
  4. Save and wait for the channels to load.
UHF: step by step
  1. Install UHF by Short Wavelength Applications from the App Store.
  2. Open it and add a playlist with the Xtream option.
  3. Enter your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password.
  4. Wait for the channels and the guide to load.

Our comparison of IPTV apps for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad adds IPTVX and iMPlayer, with prices and the tvOS version each one needs.

Windows, Mac and Xbox

Testing on a computer is easy. IPTV Smarters publishes a Windows installer and a macOS version on its download page, each with a SHA-256 checksum, and says the app is not distributed through any other website.

IPTV Smarters ProFreeWindows and macOS, from the developer's site.
MyIPTV PlayerFreeWindows, from the Microsoft Store.
VLCFreeFor testing a link, no TV guide.
IPTV Smarters Pro (Windows or Mac): step by step
  1. Download the Windows or macOS version from getiptvsmarters.com/download and install it.
  2. Open the app and add a user with the Xtream Codes login.
  3. Enter any name, then your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password.
  4. Select Add user and wait for the download to finish.
MyIPTV Player (Windows): step by step
  1. Open the Microsoft Store and install MyIPTV Player, a free app.
  2. Open its settings and add a new remote playlist with the M3U link we sent.
  3. Go back, select that playlist and refresh it.
  4. Open Channels and pick a category.

VLC opens most stream and playlist links too, but it has no TV guide grid and no Xtream Codes login. If a channel plays in VLC and not in your usual player, the stream is fine and the player's settings need a look. Our guide to IPTV players for Windows and Mac adds Kodi with a full TV guide and the App Store players that run on recent Macs, our VLC guide shows how to test any M3U link in a minute, and our Kodi IPTV guide sets up a free channel grid.

An Xbox works much like a Windows PC here. On a Series X, Series S or Xbox One, the console's Microsoft Store offers MyIPTV Player, which takes an Xtream Codes login or an M3U link and shows a TV guide, while TiviMate and IPTV Smarters are not available. Our IPTV on Xbox guide walks through it and covers PlayStation too.

Android phones and tablets

Phones need a player built for touchscreens. TiviMate's developer says it is designed for TV remotes and not optimized for phones or tablets, so pick one of these instead.

XCIPTVFree with adsRuns on phones, tablets and TVs.
iMPlayer MobileFree, in-app purchasesCustomizable, rated 4.5 on Google Play.
IPTV Smarters ProFreeAndroid version from the developer's site.
XCIPTV: step by step
  1. Install XCIPTV PLAYER by OTTRUN from Google Play.
  2. Open it and enter any name, then your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password.
  3. Sign in and pick Live TV, films or series.
iMPlayer Mobile: step by step
  1. Install iMPlayer Mobile by HzApps from Google Play.
  2. Open it and add a playlist with the login type the app offers, Xtream Codes or M3U, using the details we sent.
  3. Wait for the channels to load.
IPTV Smarters Pro: step by step
  1. Download the Android version from the official download page and allow your browser to install it when Android asks.
  2. Open the app and add a user with the Xtream Codes login, then enter your server address exactly as we sent it (including http:// and the port number), then your username and password.

Two phone settings matter. Allow the player to run without battery restrictions, or the stream may stop when the screen locks. And keep an eye on mobile data, because live TV uses a lot of it.

Sky Glass, Formuler, MAG and other devices

Sky Glass has no app store, so no IPTV player installs on the TV itself. Plug a Fire OS stick or a Google TV streamer into one of its spare HDMI ports, or send the picture from an iPhone, iPad or Mac with AirPlay. Our Sky Glass IPTV guide covers both routes in about ten minutes.

Formuler boxes come with Formuler's own app, MYTVOnline, which lets you add your service as a portal with a login. The exact menus change between MYTVOnline versions and Formuler does not publish its manuals openly, so we walk Formuler owners through it on WhatsApp rather than print steps that may not match your box.

MAG boxes connect through a portal address tied to the box's MAC address, while Vizio, Hisense and other smart TVs each have their own store and rules. Message us on WhatsApp or Telegram with your exact model before you order, and we will tell you whether it works with our service and how to set it up. Every subscription can also start with the 24-hour free trial, so you can check on your own device first. For smart TV players such as Hot Player, Set IPTV, Duplex TV or IBO, our guide to IPTV player apps compares trials and activation fees.

After setup: catch-up, recording and TV from home

Once the channels play, two questions come up quickly: how to watch something that already aired, and how to find the channels you grew up with.

When something does not work

Most setup problems fall into a handful of patterns, and each has its own guide.

  • The app refuses your login with "failed to authorize" or "login failed": see IPTV Smarters failed to authorize. The causes are the same in other players.
  • Channels freeze, buffer or stop: see IPTV not working or buffering, which starts with a two-minute test to find where the problem sits.
  • The channels play but the guide is empty or shifted: see the IPTV EPG guide.
  • A Downloader code leads nowhere or installs the wrong thing: see IPTV Downloader codes, including how to check any code before you use it.

Set up with a 24-hour free trial

The quickest way to know whether a device suits you is to try it with a real login. Start with the 24-hour IPTV free trial, tell us your device, and we send the login with the steps for your player. Every plan covers 1 to 4 devices at the same time.

If you plan to use IPTV Smarters, our IPTV Smarters Pro subscription page walks through it. All plans are on the IPTV subscription page.

IPTV setup: quick answers

Which player should I choose?

On a TV, TiviMate if you mostly watch live channels and IPTV Smarters Pro if you mostly watch films and series. On Samsung, LG or Roku, Hot Player is the one we could confirm in all three stores. On a phone, XCIPTV or iMPlayer Mobile.

Is a player's premium version part of my subscription?

No. TiviMate Premium, Hot Player, Smart IPTV and IBO Player licenses are sold by the app developers. They add app features, never channels, and your IPTV subscription keeps running whatever the app's status.

Can I use a different player?

Yes. Any player that accepts Xtream Codes or an M3U link works with the same login, and the players on this page are simply the ones we checked against official sources.

Can I switch players later?

Yes. Install the new player and enter the same details. Each screen playing at the same time counts toward your plan's device limit, whichever app it uses.

Where do I find my server address, username and password?

In the WhatsApp or email message we send after you start the trial or pay. Copy them from there rather than retyping them, because they are case sensitive.

Nothing loads after I log in. What now?

Check the server address, username and password character by character, then wait a minute for the first download. If the app still refuses the login, our failed to authorize guide goes through every cause.

How long does IPTV setup take?

Most of the time goes into installing the player the first time. Once a player is on the device, adding a login means entering three details: server address, username and password.

Can I use IPTV on a Roku?

Yes, with a player from the Roku store such as Hot Player, which has its own trial and license. For the widest choice of players, a Fire OS stick or Google TV streamer on the same TV works better.

Does IPTV work on a Firestick 4K Select?

No. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select, the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K and the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick HD run Vega OS, which blocks Downloader and apps from outside the store.
